OVER 50 Smart Phones were stolen during New Year festivities in Mazabuka District as criminals took advantage of the merry mood to rob party and club goers.
A top-ranking informant at Mazabuka Police Station tells Byta FM News that party seekers, a mixture of adults and teenagers, reported of being robbed of phones and other goods such as money in different locations.
The informer also indicates that several young people were arrested for loitering, otherwise known as “shishita” during the cross over to the New Year.
And Mazabuka Deputy Mayor, Soul Mwiinga, has applauded the Police for arresting several youth delinquencies infamously called “Junkies” who were perpetrating crime during the New Year celebrations.
Mwiinga says the action by Police to patrol around the District during the cross over is commendable, calling for a continuation to such operations amidst rising cases of crime in the District.
