Plain-clothes Police Officers in Chipata yesterday disrupted a press briefing by Economic Freedom Fighters EFF president Kasonde Mwenda.
He was later taken for a brief questioning at Chipata Central Police Station.
Mr. Mwenda who initially wanted to hold his press briefing at one of the lodges in Chipata said he was denied permission to use their place, alleging that the owner of the lodge received instructions from the police not to allow him hold the briefing.
And speaking to journalists after being questioned by the police, Mr. Mwenda says the cancellation of his briefing was disappointing because the police were notified.
When contacted for a comment, Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer Limpo Liywalii told Breeze FM News that the police took Mr. Mwenda for questioning just to advise him over going against the public order Act, as he wasn’t given a response for his notice.
Mr. Liywalii says Mr. Mwenda’s program was disrupted because he actually breached the law as he conducted himself in a manner that had potential to cause the breach of peace.
