Health Minister Sylvia Masebo says heart disease remain number one k!ller worldwide accounting for over seventeen million loss of lives every year.
Speaking during the commemoration of World Heart Day, Ms Masebo said seventy-five percent of the deaths occur in low and middle income countries.
She said it is projected that the number is expected to rise by the year 2030, especially in the developing world.
The Minister has further encouraged citizens to adopt positive lifestyles to enable them lead healthier lives.
Meanwhile, the Zambia Telecommunications Company Limited Acting Chief Executive Officer Jason Mwanza says this year’s theme dubbed “Home is Where the Heart is” harmonizes with the company’ s aspirations.
And speaking earlier National Heart Hospital Superintendent Medical Officer Chabwela Shumba called on Zambians to exploit specialized services offered at the facility.
The event was preceded by a health walk and Aerobics, which saw a horde of participants from different sector groups.
