A 23-year-old man from Kosamu village in Isoka District of Muchinga Province has drowned in the Lwanga River.
Temwani Silengo is said to have gone to see his sister who recently got married and later decided to visit his girlfriend on Sunday in the company of his friend when their boat capsized.
While crossing the Lwanga River in Mweninkasi Village the duo boarded a canoe and loaded unregistered motorbike they were using for transportation.
His friend Mabvuto Sinkala with the boat paddler in the same boat managed to swim to the river bank.
“Mabvuto Sinkala shouted for help from the people nearby to save his friend but he had already died. He informed the reporter Sinkamba Kedrick in Kosamu Village who together with other family members quickly rushed to Mwenenkasi Village where they found the body of the deceased already retrieved from the River.” Muchinga Province Police Commissioner, Paul Achiume has said.
Mr. Achiume explains that police visited the scene and inspected the body, and suspect no foul play while the family has been advised to bury the body but, mark it for possible exhumation.
