The Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) have forfeited properties totaling K9,375,438.62, belonging to Edgar Lungu’s daughter Chiyesu.

These assets include two farms, a high-cost house, four chicken runs, and three flats in Lusaka’s State Lodge area.

These properties, allegedly acquired through illicit means between 2013 and 2021, have been seized by the state following a court judgment supporting the DPP’s case for non-conviction-based forfeiture of tainted property.

The investigation revealed significant discrepancies in Ms. Lungu’s account, with minimal transactions recorded until mid-2018 when it was repurposed as a salary account.

According to the statement issued, the revelation raised suspicions of illicit activities prompting the thorough investigation by law enforcement agencies.

This decisive action sends a clear message that illegal activities will not be tolerated, and those involved will face severe consequences.

Commending the dedication and perseverance of investigators and prosecutors involved in the case, Nason Banda, Director General of the Drug Enforcement Commission, and Gilbert Phiri, Director of Public Prosecution at the National Prosecutions Authority, emphasized the significance of this milestone in the fight against crime.

“The NPA and DEC reaffirm their commitment to combating financial crimes, ensuring that criminals do not profit from their actions” they said.

They further urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities, emphasizing the collective effort required to root out corruption, money laundering, and other illicit activities for a safer and more prosperous future.
