A youth of Lusaka’s Kabangwe has been sentenced to two- and -half years’ imprisonment with hard labour for breaking into a New Apostolic Church where he stole Holy Communion cups and offering boxes, among other items, worth over K3,000.
Before jailing Klacious Mwape, Lusaka magistrate George Njobvu said he needed to punish the convict because cases of people breaking and stealing in churches are on the rise in Lusaka.
“He had the courage to steal from the house of the Lord,” magistrate Njobvu told the 27-year-old convict yesterday.
He noted that the convict’s thievery ended up disrupting church proceedings.
