Shutdown of Kamwala’s Luburma Market Unavoidable if Water Shortages Persists – Councillor Simataa
Kamwala Ward Councillor Hon Mainda Simataa says the shutdown of the 5000 capacity Kamwala market will soon be unavoidable in order to prevent disease outbreaks if the water crisis that has widely affected his ward and Lusaka City at large persists.
The civic leader was speaking this morning when he engaged Lusaka City Council fire services to deliver emergency water relief in the market toilets which have been repeatedly running out of water since Lusaka Water Company begun its 60 days shutdown.
Councillor Simataa added that as a safety rule, when toilets run out of water, they must be shutdown; and since no major market can run without toilets, a shutdown of the facility was inevitable if no sustainable remedial measures are put in place to continue supplying the market which consumes 20,000 liters of water per day.
