…. it is an offence for any person to drive an unregistered motor vehicle on a public road
The Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) has reminded members of the public and motorists that it is an offence for any person to drive an unregistered motor vehicle on a public road.
RTSA Acting Head of Public Relations Mukela Mangolwa says the Agency has noted with regret the increase in the number of unregistered motor vehicles plying public roads.
He has warned motorists that driving an unregistered motor vehicle is an offence and that offenders will be prosecuted in accordance with the Road Traffic Act No.11 of 2002 and the motor vehicle will be impounded.
“The RTSA is giving motorists seven days in which to register all unregistered motor vehicles failure to which, such motor vehicles will be impounded. Section 11 of the Road Traffic Act No:11 of 2002 states; “Subject to the provisions of this Act, no person shall use a motor vehicle or trailer unless such vehicle or trailer is registered in accordance with the provisions of this act,” he said.
“Further, the law only provides that an imported motor vehicle must be registered within fourteen (14) days of importation into the country. Motorists are encouraged to visit their nearest RTSA station and start the motor vehicle registration process and comply with the law to avoid being prosecuted.”
