The Lusaka City Council has expressed displeasure over an unknown individual who has been impersonating the Lusaka City Council Town Clerk, with the intention of collecting money from business owners within the city.
It has come to our attention that the impersonator is taking advantage of the “Town Clerk position” to extort money from business owners by falsely claiming that their businesses will remain open even if they have not paid or renewed their permits.
According to reports by victims, the impersonator has been allegedly soliciting money for lunch and beverages, among other funds, from them using his fake earned title “Lusaka City Council Town Clerk.”
The Lusaka City Council would like to advise business owners and members of the public that the council does not receive cash payments for any services.
Instead, customers are required to make payments through LCC-affiliated banks and produce a receipt as proof of payment for any service.
Additionally, the Council has made it clear that its revenue collectors or any other task force formed for that cause carry valid identification cards, wear council uniforms, and do not ask for bribes from any business operator.
The criminals involved in this illegality must immediately cease operations as they will be dealt with in accordance with the law and serve as an example to would-be offenders.
We have since instituted investigations into the matter to ensure the culprit is brought to book.
The Local Authority would, therefore, like to commend members of the public for swiftly reporting such an individual as this will enable the council to make necessary interventions over this matter.
