LUSAKA – Minister of Information and Media (MIM) Cornelius Mweetwa says Zambians should not trust the Patriotic Front (PF) again because it is a party of scammers that neglected the country in its ten year rule.
Mr Mweetwa said it is immoral for PF to continue claiming that it will come back and revamp the economy when it neglected economy especially the agricultural sector.
The minister was speaking during the MIM weekly briefings this morning.
“PF are political scammers who are lying that they will do better given a chance to come back in government,” he said.
Mr Mweetwa said it is also immoral for PF to talk about the cost of living when when they left a collapsed economy because of poor agriculture policy.
He has however said government has put in place measures that will ensure that the cost of living will improve next year and beyond. “For instance D-Compound fertilizer has been distributed already to all parts of the country,” he said.
Mr Mweetwa said that all what is remaining now is for the people of Zambia to pray for good rains. He said it would be terrible to think of former President Edgar Lungu coming back as he has no plans to rule but just thirsty for power.
And Mr Mweetwa says Government is elated with the Auditor General’s
report which he said has brought a sigh of relief to government for the first time in a long time.
He said the AG’s Report on the Accounts of the republic for the
financial year ended December 31, 2022 has revealed a 97 percent
reduction in misappropriation of funds from K5 million in 2021 to K135,207 in 2023.
He said for the first time in 12 years, the audit findings have shown
a decrease in total audit query amounts by 29 percent from K133
billion in 2021 to K103 billion in 2023.
And Mr Mweetwa who has thanked President Hakainde Hichilema for
appointing him Minister of Information has affirmed governments
commitment to a free press and independent media.
He has also reassured that no media will be infringed upon saying no
media house will be closed even if at the height of pressure.
Mr Mweetwa has also lifted the ban which he placed on the media that
are working against the UPND like Daily Nation.
